Acupuncture Tools

Acupuncture does not hurt. The needles are thin like a cat's whisker, so you may feel a tiny pinch like a bug bite, or nothing at all. Most people end up falling asleep during treatment.

All needles are pre-sterilized and disposable, so we do not re-use them. There are no substances or medications on them, they are just stainless steel so there are no side-effects or toxicity from treatment.

Full Body Acupuncture

My 13 years of experience has taught me the best ways to provide safe, effective treatments to care for my patients.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine that has been used for over 5000 years to restore the body back to a state of health and harmony. It involves the delicate placement of very fine needles at specific points on the body to elicit a healing response. Don't worry! It's not like getting a shot or giving blood, our needles are like a whisker and most people respond by saying, "That's it? It's in?"

By gently stimulating specific points, we can boost your body's own natural healing mechanisms to promote faster and more efficient healing and organ function. Some of the ways acupuncture affects your body is by improving blood circulation, reducing stress hormones in the blood, reducing inflammation and pain, stimulating the brain to release endorphins and boosting the immune system.

Used alone or in together with other forms of medicine or therapies, acupuncture is a safe and effective method to get you back to a healthier lifestyle, without the inconveniences and dangers of side effects.
First treatment will take 1-1.5 hrs and follow-up visits 30min-1hr.

Neuro-Acupuncture

A specialty system that focuses on healing neurological disorders and injuries. Lines on the scalp are precisely located and stimulated to activate healing on parts of the brain or spinal cord that are no longer functioning as they should. This method can also stimulate parts of the brain to take over the functions of other parts that have been damaged through disease or injury.  This exciting modality brings hope to people with conditions that have no other successful methods of treatment available.

Custom Flower Essences

Flower essences are an all natural vibrational medicine similar to homeopathy. They are made by letting fresh flowers sit in spring water in the sunshine for a few hours. The water is then strained and mixed with brandy as a preservative. Flowers are the highest potential and most beautiful expression of the plant. In the same way, taking these flowers helps bring out our most positive qualities letting the negative aspects naturally and gently fall away or be cancelled out. They are taken drops at a time in the mouth or in anything you can drink a few times a day. Regular use will allow one to notice subtle yet noticeable improvements in thinking patterns, emotions and spiritual outlook. Since it is a vibrational medicine and does not work based on chemical composition, it does not interfere with any medications, trigger any allergies and is not habit forming. These are not the same as essential oils. A brief interview will allow me to determine which flowers would be helpful and I can customize a formula of 5-9 essences in one bottle.

Cupping

Cupping is another modality of Chinese Medicine that involves placing sunction cups, usually over the back. Cupping increases blood circulation and separates the fascia from the muscle tissue, allowing for better circulation, relaxation of the muscles, and prevents muscle spasms. It is used for pain from injury or overwork, knots and spasms, colds, flu, respiratory conditions and even some digestive disorders. It is painless and very soothing. As a result of the suction, a redness usually appears on the surface of the skin, but this is only temporary and not painful or uncomfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance. We can provide patients with a superbill to submit to their insurance for reimbursement. You will want to ask if your insurance policy covers out-of-network acupuncture benefits to determine if you will be re-imbursed. This prevents insurances from dictating treatments and allows us to focus solely on our patients' care instead of on excessive paperwork.

Who can benefit from your treatments?

Everyone can benefit from acupuncture as there are no health conditions that exclude a person from receiving acupuncture. I have experience treating babies, children, teens, adults and seniors. For young children and people who are needle-sensitive, cold laser therapy is an effective alternative to using needles.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine that has been used for over 5000 years to restore the body back to a state of health and harmony. It involves the delicate placement of very fine needles at specific points on the body to elicit a healing response. By gently stimulating specific points, we can boost your body's own natural healing mechanisms to promote faster and more efficient healing, repair and organ function. Used alone or in together with other forms of medicine or therapies, acupuncture is a safe and effective method to get you back to a healthier lifestyle, without the inconveniences and dangers of side effects.

I'm Afraid of Needles! Does It Hurt?

NO! Most people don't like needles and assume acupuncture will feel the same as when you get your blood drawn or like a vaccination shot. I can assure you that it does not! The needles used for acupuncture are not the same needles used to take blood. They are hair-thin, similar to a cat's whisker and very flexible. When the needle is inserted, you may feel a tiny pinch, like a bug bite, or you may not even feel it all! (Plucking your eyebrows hurts much more than acupuncture!) The most frequent reaction I have received from patients over the years is, "That's it? It's in?"

Is Acupuncture Safe?

YES! All needles are pre-sterilized, used only once, and then properly discarded. There is no medication or any substance on the needles, they are just plain stainless steel. A licensed acupuncturist pays about $50/month in malpractice insurance compared to an MD, who pays about $1000, because there is little to no risk of injury. It is important that you see a state licensed practitioner who has been properly trained. You can check to see if someone is licensed to practice acupuncture in NJ at the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs website at https://newjersey.mylicense.com/verification/

How Does It Work?
What Can I Expect At My First Treatment?

Acupuncture affects the different systems of the body to promote healing. It stimulates the immune system, improves blood circulation, regulates the nervous system, balances hormones, stimulates the release of endorphins, and promotes optimal organ function.
According to Chinese Medical theory, acupuncture regulates the body's Qi. The closest translation for Qi, (pronounced 'chee') is 'life force' or 'energy.' This Qi has many functions in the body including protection, warmth, movement, digestion, and metabolism to name a few. When the free flow of Qi is prevented (due to stress, illness or injury) it creates symptoms in the body. Acupuncture gets the Qi moving correctly again, and  strengthens it if it is weak. A common analogy is when a stream gets blocked due to a damn or debris piled up in one spot. There will be flooding on one side and not enough water on the other side. Removing the damn or putting holes in it will allow more water to continue to flow freely along its course, nourishing the surrounding animals and plants.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most people will notice improvement within 1-4 treatments and do well with getting treatment once a week for a number of weeks. Everyone is different and a problem that has just started recently will heal much faster than a condition that has been bothering you for years. More serious conditions require treatment 2-3 times a week for a number of weeks. If you do it only occasionally, the benefits won't be as noticeable than if you did it on a regular basis. Just keep in mind that the stresses of everyday life, poor posture, traffic, carrying things the wrong way, poor sleep or diet, all contribute to the body being broken down. When you notice something is not right, it is a good idea to come back for a tune-up treatment. An ounce of prevention goes a long way.

Your first treatment will take about 1-1.5 hours depending on the complexity of your condition. After you fill out a form about your medical history, we will discuss your concerns and possible treatment plans. After all your questions are answered, you will be asked to lie comfortably on a massage table while the points are gently inserted. You will rest with the needles for about 20-30 minutes with soothing music in the background. After the time is finished, the needles will be painlessly removed and the treatment is done. Many people find that they become extremely relaxed and fall asleep. It is reccomeded to wear lose, comfortable clothing and to make sure you have had something to eat sometime before treatment.
